Junior Tennis Clinics
The IWTA board currently runs 2 summertime (June & September) junior tennis clinics in conjunction with the Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp. The clinics consist of two half days of play on the weekend. With the development of non- profit status, the IWTA will become the sole sponsor of Youth Wheelchair Tennis in Idaho. Youth clinics are essential for the development of players and the enhancement of the sport of Wheelchair Tennis in Idaho. Another program we plan to implement for the future development of wheelchair youth tennis; is to outreach through schools and other organizations that deal with physically challenged individuals, and teach a positive message to the individuals peers that “it is not what happens in life but what we do to overcome those barriers” . The final part of our proposed youth development is to supply specialized tennis wheelchairs at no cost to the athlete. There is a huge need for specialized tennis wheelchairs for the junior players and the cost of such equipment is a barrier to playing the sport . In 2004 Quickie Design donated one youth wheelchair that the IWTA gave away at a youth tennis clinic. We will continue to endeavor to acquire equipment for junior players that need the specialized chairs to further the sport of youth wheelchair tennis in Idaho. The organization spends about 10% of it’s time on this activity.
